JESS McCALDIN

Jess McCaldin is a 12 year old event rider based in Sussex. She competes her three ponies Suzi, Casper and Messi. Despite the shortened event season in 2020 Jess was delighted to have competed in ten BE events and build up her partnership with Suzi. Over the winter Jess is actively working on her dressage and show jumping as well as getting to know Casper ready for the 2021 season.

2020 Season Report

It was a very disappointing start to the season with the first event being cancelled due to bad weather and then going into lock down. The silver lining was that this did give me valuable extra time to get to know my new pony Suzi. Suzi is a very experienced event pony and quite a large step up from my amazing 13hh pony Messi. It took a while for me to adjust to the much longer stride. I have been particularly working on my dressage partnership with Suzi as this is probably our weakest phase. She is such a brave pony cross country and we both enjoy that phase the most. I was also lucky to have some fantastic runs on Messi who I am sadly outgrowing but is amazing fun to event. Towards the end of the season, I took over the ride on my brother’s pony Casper and managed a few rounds of show jumping and some arena eventing. I am very much looking forward to getting out again when the BE season starts in 2021.

India Piper-Dadswell

Over the past few years I have been proud to sponsor India who is a talented young showjumper based locally in East Sussex. India has actively competed very successfully on several ponies, including Firene and Shelby, both nationally and abroad. India will be moving on to horses for the 2021 season and we hope to follow her progress once Covid allows us all out again.

Cliffe Equine Vets, Lewes

The team of professional equine vets at Cliffe Equine and their state-of-the-art facilities ensure all of the horses and ponies they look after are very well cared for. I have taken a selection of photographs of the team at work which you can see on their new website. There are also two beautifully framed examples of Pony Portrait’s images and a complete framed Wentworth jigsaw of another in the waiting area which you will see if you visit the practice.

Surrey Equine Massage

I had the pleasure of working with Emma from Surrey Equine Massage as part of my Native Pony project and I had a lovely morning photographing her horse any pony. Emma is a fully qualified Massage Therapist for both humans and equines and offers remedial massage across Surrey and West Sussex.
